Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) was, together with his brother Wilhelm (1786-1859), not only a collector of German fairytales but also the founder of ancient historical studies in Germany and Germanic linguistics and philology, as well as the editor of the first comprehensive dictionary of the German language.
