Working on the Camp Newsletter "Unterwegs" (1945-48)

Libraries and reading rooms were set up in almost all of the large DP camps, for after years of privation, without access to education or information, there was a great thirst for knowledge. Jewish DPs worked hard to establish their own presses, a task made difficult by postwar conditions (e.g., paper rationing and shortages of typewriters and other technical equipment). Nonetheless, almost every camp published several newsletters, which were printed for the most part in Yiddish and Hebrew.
