Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and his Secretary (1960)

Paramount in the Federal Republic's foreign policy under Konrad Adenauer was integration with the West, with the aim being a close bond with the states of Western Europe, strong economic integration with the newly established European Economic Community (EEC), and close political ties to the United States. This photograph shows Adenauer and his secretary, Hannelore Siegel, on a flight to the United States for a state visit in March 1960. Photographer unknown.
