The “Eldorado” was a popular and well-known Berlin nightclub that catered to gays, lesbians, transvestites, and transsexuals. British writer Christopher Isherwood (1904-1986), whose novels and stories chronicled his years in Berlin from 1929 to 1933, frequented many of the bars and clubs that contributed to Berlin’s atmosphere of tolerance and sexual liberation.
