Although Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Wallenstein (1583-1634) came from a Protestant Bohemian noble family, he converted to Catholicism and entered the service of the Habsburgs, where he quickly rose through the ranks. His career peaked during the Thirty Years War, when he became Supreme Commander of the Imperial troops. He eventually fell out of favor, though, and was assassinated by officers loyal to the Emperor.
