View of the Römerberg in Frankfurt am Main on October 4, 1745, the Day of the Coronation of Francis I (c. 1750)

This view of Frankfurt’s central square, the “Römerberg,” shows the popular component of the formal coronation of Francis I. The secular coronation banquet took place in the “Römer,” the complex of three step-gabled Gothic buildings seen in the background (center).
