June 17, 1953 (map)

June 17, 1953, and the days that followed saw protests and uprisings against SED rule in East Germany. This map shows that the unrest was not limited to East Berlin but spread throughout the country. As a result, the GDR government imposed emergency law in numerous districts and counties and called upon Soviet troops to help quash the protests in dozens of cities.
