"The Opening of Industrial-Technical Occupations to Girls" (1981)
Between 1978 and 1985, the German Ministry for Education and Science operated a model program for “opening up industrial and technical professions to girls.” The program focused on professions in which the percentage of women was less than 5% (1978). Overall, 1,232 young women participated in the program in 21 cities and towns and started their professional training in 217 companies and professional training schools. The German Postal Service, one third of whose employees were women (1981), also participated in the program and trained women as telecommunications technicians. This photograph shows practical training in the Postal Service workshop.
