Solar Automobile (1982)
The Lörrach-based firm Bomin Solar introduced its solar-powered car at an environmental trade fair. This solar car cost 11,850 marks and could reach a speed of approximately 15 miles per hour. The founder of Bomin-Solar, Hans Kleinwächter, had participated in the German V2 missile project as a navigation expert during the Second World War and had also worked in France and Egypt. Today, Kleinwächter is remembered as a pioneer in the field of solar energy. Together with his son, physicist Jürgen Kleinwächter, he began researching the applicability of solar technology as far back as the early 1970s.
