Mass Execution of Lithuanian Jews by Members of the Wehrmacht and the Lithuanian Self-Protection Unit [Selbstschutz] (1942) The war of annihilation carried out in the conquered territories of the East by mobile killing squads euphemistically referred to as Special Operations Units [Einsatzgruppen], the Order Police [Ordnungspolizei], and the Wehrmacht received the support of some segments of the local population. Collaborators helped round up the Jews, revealed their hiding places, participated in mass executions, and guarded ghettos and camps.
