August Bebel, Women Under Socialism [Die Frau und der Sozialismus] (1879/1910) This facsimile shows the commemorative front cover of the 50th edition (Stuttgart, 1910) of Women under Socialism [Die Frau und der Sozialismus], written by the leader of the Social Democratic Party August Bebel (1840-1913). The book, excerpted in this volume, was originally published in 1879. Although Bebel was only slowly developing a theoretically sophisticated understanding of Marxism at the time of its first appearance, the text was extremely popular and broadly accepted as a clear, authoritative statement of Social Democracy’s goals.
