Sweets from American Soldiers (1945)
During the march into Germany in 1945, American soldiers were officially banned from fraternizing with Germans, and their warned them not to trust Germans on account of both their possible complicity with Nazi crimes. Additionally there were fears of an underground Nazi resistance. With German children, however, American soldiers were friendlier, and very popular, particularly because their pockets were usually filled with candy and chocolate. Photographer unknown.
