Urban Trades – The Baker (1568)

This image of a baker was taken from a 1568 publication entitled Eygentliche Beschreibung Aller Stäande auf Erden [Actual Description of all Professions on Earth], with verses by Hans Sachs and illustrations by Jost Amman. The baker advertises not only his bread ("Come to me, he who suffers hunger pangs/ I have good wheat and rye bread / Baked from grain, wheat, and seeds"), but also his pretzels, rolls, and Easter cake.
