Caricature: Female University Student (1847)
Female student with the attributes of a male university student, including a pipe and student cap. The Star of David may be an anti-Semitic commentary on the perceived overrepresentation of Jews among academics. The caricature dates from 1847, when the matriculation of women at German universities was still unimaginable. Wood engraving.
