Stuttgart Expressways (c. 1970)

The ideal of the car-friendly city shaped efforts to rebuild large West German cities in the postwar era. As part of this movement, inner-city expressways were extended and connected to the country's highway network, thereby creating long-distance links between cities. This photo shows the expressway interchange at Charlottenplatz in Stuttgart, which, incidentally, is home to the car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Maybach. Photographer unknown.
