"His Holiness, Wilhelm the Butcher" (1870)

This Parisian caricature of Prussian King Wilhelm I – “S.S. Guillaume-le-Boucher” – is by A. Belloguet and dates from 1870. Among other references, it associates Wilhelm with “the law of the sword” and the death of fraternal relations among nations. The dream of a “united states of Europe” mentioned in the text at the bottom has disappeared in the midst of war.
