Train Wreck in Alsace (September 3, 1882)

First trains and then automobiles became capable of traveling at speeds previously unheard of. Transportation accidents thus became part of everyday life and were featured prominently in media reports. This woodcut depicts a train wreck in Hugstetten in the imperial territory [Reichsland] of Alsace. It was based on a sketch by O. Haßlinger and aided by a photograph by Braun & Co. in Dornach. The woodcut was published in the Leipziger Illustrierte.
