The Storming of Frankfurt's Main Police Station (April 3, 1833) On April 3, 1833, armed students (most of whom belonged to fraternities, Burschenschaften) stormed Frankfurt's main police station and attempted to free political prisoners. In doing so, they aimed to signal a larger revolution in Germany. Intending to arm the people, arrest members of the Bundestag, and proclaim the Republic, the group was frustrated to learn that the people were reluctant to participate. Soldiers soon recaptured the station and the uprising collapsed, after which restrictions were tightened yet again. Contemporary colored wood engraving.
