Sweets from American Soldiers (1945)
During the march into Germany in 1945, American soldiers were officially banned from fraternizing with Germans and warned by their superiors against trusting Germans because of uncertainty about their complicity in Nazi crimes and fears of an underground Nazi resistance. With German children, however, they were friendlier, and very popular, particularly because their pockets were usually filled with candy and chocolate. Photographer unknown.
